After a big week of training in Coimbra and my 3rd race in a row out in Europe it was never going to be the smoothest of races. After a rough swim I came out the water further down that I would’ve liked but I managed to close the gap with the help of some athletes to a few riders who were just off the front group. The weather was terrible, the caused the roads to be very slippy especially on the roundabouts which unfortunately meant there were a few crashes. I was very lucky to stay on my bike as one of the athletes in front of me came down hard just before going onto the second lap. We continued to chase hard to try and close the front group of 10 and got the gap to within 10 seconds, but on the last lap of the bike we lost a lot of time as people started to sit in and not pull turns to save. their legs for the run. I managed to get into T2 first out of my bike group and onto the run 2nd, which set me up well for a quick run. After 1.5k there was 2 Spanish athletes that pulled away as I struggled to find my legs, I was still closing down lots of time to some athletes from the front group. As I went onto the second lap I managed to push on and felt great which allowed me to pick off a few more athletes and finish in a respectable 10th place in a very strong field.
It was another great race experience and it was also nice to come away with some points and prize money before flying to Austria for the European Sprint Triathlon Championships in Kitzbuhel.
