The weather down in Barrowford was perfect for some fast times to be put down at the Podium 5K. It was a night where Beth Potter ran 14:41, setting a new unofficial world record right before my race started. It was incredible to get the opportunity to stand on the start line with some very high caliber athletes. Once the gun went off I settled into a fast pace in the front group, going through the first K in 2:43. I felt very strong and in control until around half way where it really started to hurt, by the time I got to the last km I was on the absolute limit. From 800m out I went full gas to hopefully drop a few athletes that I was running with for most of the race. But unfortunately got pipped by Jonny Brownlee and Chris Perham in the last 100m. To see 13:53 was a shock to begin with but it’s a time I knew I wouldn’t be far off if I was able to put by best performance down on the day, which I managed to do.
